How To Get Your Toddler To Be More Active?
Here's How To Encourage Your Child To Get Moving!
From the day your child makes his first steps, i.e. around his first birthday, till the day he learns how to implement what he has been taught to do in his third year, we advise you to encourage your bundle of joy to explore the world and instill into him good and healthy habits and activities that will guarantee him a life full of energy and vitality.
Healthy activities begin with active play and physical exercises that can strengthen your child’s muscles, improve his coordination capacities, enhance his health and confidence, and develop his creativity and ability to play with peers, and end with intellectual games and activities that can stimulate your child’s brain as well as his motor and mental capacities.
You could start your child’s healthy activities indoor then move them to outdoor. Take a look at the options you have:
- Dancing and jumping on loud music.
- Throwing, rolling and playing with ball.
- Participating in yard work or household chores that require physical activity, like gardening.
- Visiting the park and playing with other children.
- Playing a sport that is convenient for toddlers, such as swimming and gymnastics.
To help your toddler benefit the most of these healthy activities, make sure you give him 90 to 120 minutes for vigorous physical exercises per day. Keep him away from television, video games and technological devices until he’s two, and try to limit his screen time to 2 hours per day afterwards.
Besides exercising, make sure your toddler follows a healthy diet that provides him with the amount of calories his body needs, taking into consideration his age, gender and daily activity level, which means 1000 to 1200 calories for male inactive toddlers, 1000 to 1400 calories for male active toddlers, 1000 calories for female inactive toddlers and 1400 calories max for female active toddlers.
According to experts, children between 1 and 3 years of age need to do multiple physical activities for at least 120 minutes per day, so they will grow and develop at both emotional and social levels, and help their bones, muscles and heart grow stronger. In parallel, mothers are asked to develop their toddlers’ skills and intellectual capacities through communication and detailed explanation of each activity.
