Tips for picky Eaters
If your child is a picky eater; don't worry as this behavior usually peaks during toddlerhood and subsides at around 3 years of age. Remember that it is your responsibility provide the healthy and balanced food to your child; but it his responsibility to decide what he wants to eat out of those option and when as well as knowing when they feel full. Kids don't starve themselves and know exactly when they are full; so refrain from force-feeding because it might make them even more resistant to eat.
To help you during this challenging journey; here are some tips that might help:
- Create funny shapes or forms out of the foods you are offering (e.g., a smiley omelet, star mini sandwiches).
- Don't reach out to the glass of milk just because your child won't eat now. Give him some time to feel hungry and then offer the food again.
- Use colorful and appealing cups, straws and plates; ones that your child prefers to make mealtimes more fun.
- Let them create a mess every once in a while. After a few messy mealtimes; your child would have developed his self-feeding skills sooner than you may expect.
- If they are picky about a certain food; think of clever ways in sneaking that ingredient in another food that he does like.
- Be patient. Kids can refuse a certain food between 8 to 15 times until they accept it.
