Ways To Repair Your Kid's Gut Health After Antibiotics

IMPORTANT NOTICE: The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months and continued breastfeeding for as long as possible. Growing up milks are formulated to meet nutrition needs of healthy young children older than 1 year and should not be fed to infants.

 

Antibiotics are often an inevitable treatment to bacterial diseases and infections.

 

It’s true that this kind of treatments is very effective in increasing a body’s resistance to illness, yet with a high incidence of severe side effects as antibiotics do not distinguish between good and bad bacteria and work on defeating all beneficial bacteria for both digestive and immune systems.

Based on this undesirable fact especially for young children, we recommend you to follow our advices below in order rebuild and repair your child’s gut after antibiotics:  

  • Serve your child chicken soup with bone broth rich in mineral and beneficial amino acids, including glutamine, given the role of these nutrients in repairing the intestinal mucosal lining. 
  • Enrich your toddler’s diet with fermented foods that can revive the good bacteria in his digestive system. These foods include but are not limited to: yogurt, kefir and sour cream. 
  • Serve your child a cup of milk full of minerals, vitamins, essential nutrients for growth and immunity, as well as probiotics, daily. Given that the major role of probiotic bacteria is to improve the immune system’s function by reducing the number of IgA plasma cells, increasing the phagocytosis rate, raising levels of T white cells and natural killer cells, in addition to treating diarrhea and boosting gut’s immunity and ability to fight illnesses.
  • Do not offer your child sugar and simple carbohydrate sources so that his gut remains a healthy environment where bad bacteria cannot thrive. Once he’s totally cured, consider reintroducing these foods to his diet gradually. 
  • Enrich your tot’s diet with insoluble fiber-rich foods like bananas and whole grain products, which help grow healthy digestive flora.
