Importance of energy and the role of Ascenda 3+ in improving energy intake in children with growth faltering.

Consistent nourishment to the body through nutrient intake is necessary for your child’s growth and development. Nutrients are classified into two main categories: macronutrients, which include carbohydrates, proteins, and fats, and micronutrients, which encompass vitamins and minerals. While macronutrients function as building blocks for your little one’s body, they also play a vital role in providing energy for your child’s growth.1

Why is energy intake important?

Children experience rapid growth and development, particularly during infancy and early childhood. Adequate energy intake supports the development of bones, muscles, and other tissues. Children have higher metabolic rates compared to adults, meaning they require more energy relative to their body size. Energy (commonly measured in calories) is a key factor for growth, and when your child has a growth spurt, he/she requires higher amounts of calories to maintain the body as well as to grow. 1 However, if children’s nutritional intake does not meet their specific energy requirements, they can go through a phase of growth faltering and may need some catch-up growth.2

ASCENDA 3+ is formulated with higher energy density to address energy deficit and growth faltering3

While children following a normal growth trajectory benefit from the regular energy density of routine formula (between 0.6 to 0.7 kilocalories/ml), children who need catch-up growth need higher levels to fill the energy deficit in their body. That’s why ASCENDA 3+ is formulated with an energy density of 1 kcal/ml, that provides nearly 50% more energy than regular formula in each fee.3

IMPORTANT NOTICE. We believe that breastfeeding is the ideal nutritional start for babies, and we fully support the World Health Organizations recommendation of exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life followed by the introduction of adequate nutritious complementary foods along with continued breastfeeding up to two years of age. We recommend that parents seek information regarding the advantages of breastfeeding & the importance of starting breastfeeding immediately after birth (within the first hour). A healthy diet is essential to support a healthy pregnancy and to prepare and maintain lactation.

We also recognize that breastfeeding is not always an option for parents, we recommend that you speak to your healthcare professional about how to feed your baby and seek advice on when to introduce complementary feeding.

If you choose not to breastfeed, please remember that such a decision can be difficult to reverse and that the introduction of partial bottle-feeding or complementary food before six months of age will reduce the supply of breast milk and has social, and financial, health, environmental implications.

Introducing partial bottle-feeding or complementary food before six months of age will reduce the supply of breast milk.

Infant formula and complementary foods should always be prepared properly when needed whether manufactured industrially or home-prepared to be used and stored as instructed on the label in order to avoid risks to a baby's health related to hazards of unnecessary or improper use of infant formula & other breast milk substitutes as well as hazards related to inappropriate foods or feeding methods. Parents should speak to healthcare professionals regarding the proper use of cups, spoons, other utensils as well as the risks associated with using pacifiers & artificial teats.

ASCENDA 3+ is not a breast-milk substitute. We recommend that you speak to your healthcare professional about how to feed your baby and seek advice on when to introduce this product.
